Description

  • This project has been formed as an international joint project with Dr. Youssef Iraqi at the Dept. of Computer Engineering (Sharjah Campus), Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR), UAE. The project aims to develop a distributed, intelligent multi-sensor surveillance system for monitoring and caring elderly people in a hospital or in a sliver-care town. From the technical standpoint, we will investigate techniques to extend the conventional video surveillance system using audio and localization sensors to fuse the information gained by multiple sources in order to improve the overall performance. From the application standpoint, we will aim to apply the surveillance system for caring elderly people who require continuous monitoring (e.g., those with dementia). In the process, we will use data mining, machine learning, and other artificial intelligence techniques to understand and reason about human behavioral patterns for early detection of emergency situations.
